How listing prices, transaction fees, taxes, and deposits affect your total rental cost.

When you book a vehicle on TripCity, your total cost includes several components. Some are set by the owner. Others are required to support insurance, platform operations, and tax compliance.

This article explains each cost so you know exactly what you are paying before you confirm a booking or extension.

What Is the Listing Price Fee?

  • The listing price is set by the vehicle owner.
  • Owners control their daily, weekly, or monthly rates.
  • You pay the listing price upfront when submitting a booking request.
  • Rental extensions are submitted in your dashboard and require owner approval.

What Are TripCity’s Transaction Fees?

TripCity charges a daily Renter Transaction Fee. This fee covers insurance and platform services.

The amount depends on your state and usage type.

Daily transaction fee

  • $29 per day for personal use
  • $29 per day for rideshare use

This fee applies to:

  • New bookings
  • Approved rental extensions

Sales Tax on Rentals and Extensions

Sales tax applies to rentals and extensions where required by local tax laws.

  • Sales tax is added at checkout for new rentals.
  • Sales tax is added when you extend a trip, based on the extension amount.
  • The tax appears as a separate line item before you confirm and pay.

Why is this required?

  • This ensures TripCity remains compliant with state and local tax requirements.

What you can expect

  • Your total cost may increase slightly depending on the tax rate in the rental location.
  • Tax rates vary by state, city, and county.
  • Different locations may have different tax amounts, even within the same state.

What About a Security Deposit?

TripCity does not require or collect security deposits.

  • TripCity never holds deposits.

  • TripCity does not mediate deposit disputes.

As a driver, You need to do your due diligence.

  • Be cautious if an owner asks for money before pickup.

  • Watch for requests to pay deposits off platform.

  • Avoid owners who require deposits whenever possible.

Your safest option.

  • Book with owners who do not require a deposit.

  • Confirm all terms in via inbox messaging before booking.

  • If an issue happens, you must resolve it directly with the owner.

TripCity does not get involved with security deposits under any circumstance.
