Car Swaps
What a car swap is, when it can happen, and what drivers and owners should know.
What Is a Car Swap
A car swap happens when:
- The owner has more than one vehicle in their inventory.
- The originally rented vehicle becomes unavailable.
- The driver agrees to switch into another available vehicle.
The swap is processed while the rental remains active.
Why an Owner Might Offer a Swap
An owner may offer a car swap in situations such as:
- A maintenance or mechanical issue with the current vehicle.
- The original vehicle becomes unavailable.
- The driver wants to upgrade or downgrade their rental.
This option allows the driver to continue working without interruption.
Rental Status Requirements
A car swap during an active rental is only possible if:
- The booking is currently active.
- The rental is not in late status.
If the rental is late, one of the following must happen first:
- The driver submits an extension to become current.
- The owner provides a courtesy extension through their dashboard.
Swaps cannot proceed while the rental is in a late status.
Pricing Differences
If the replacement vehicle has a different daily rate:
- The owner must clearly communicate the price difference.
- Any additional cost must be agreed to by the driver.
- If the replacement vehicle is higher in price, adjustments should be discussed.
Important Notes
-
TripCity does not negotiate or mediate car swap terms.
-
All swap terms must be agreed upon directly between the owner and driver.
-
Any pricing or rental adjustments must follow standard authorization procedures.
