Understanding Payment Statuses

What each payment status means and how it appears on your bank statement.

Overview

When you submit a new booking or extend a rental, your payment moves through specific stages. These statuses explain what is happening with your money and what you may see on your bank statement.

TripCity uses Stripe to process all payments securely.

Pending or Authorized

  • A temporary hold is placed on your card for the booking amount.
  • Funds are not taken yet.
  • Your available balance is temporarily reduced.
  • Your bank statement shows a pending or hold transaction.
  • The description usually shows TripCity or a Stripe descriptor.

This is normal during booking or extension requests.

Captured

  • The payment is complete.
  • Funds are deducted from your account.
  • The charge is finalized.
  • Your bank statement shows a completed charge.

This means your booking or extension was successfully processed.

Uncaptured or Canceled

  • The hold was released before funds were taken.
  • No money is charged.
  • The pending transaction disappears from your statement.
  • Your available balance returns to normal.

This often happens if a request is canceled or not approved.

Incomplete

  • The payment process started but did not finish.
  • Common reasons include:
    • Card declined
    • Checkout not completed
    • Additional security steps not finished

Usually, no charge appears. In some cases, a small temporary authorization may appear briefly and then disappear.

Refunded

  • A completed charge was reversed.
  • Refunds typically take 5 to 10 business days to appear.
  • The refund shows as a credit on your statement.
  • The description often matches the original charge.

Timing depends on your bank.

Common Scenarios

  • You see a pending charge first, then it becomes captured. The booking went through.
  • You see a pending charge that disappears. You were not charged.
  • You see a completed charge followed by a credit. A refund was issued.

Quick Reference

  • Pending or Authorized: Hold placed. Not charged.
  • Captured: Payment complete. Charged.
  • Uncaptured or Canceled: Hold released. No charge.
  • Incomplete: Payment not finished. Usually no charge.
  • Refunded: Money returned after charge.
